“Faith in action is possible with prayer and discernment” – Bp. Ambo David

SEPTEMBER 14, 2018 – Liturgically, the day is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross but for us members of the Order of the Knights of Columbus, it is also a day in which we commemorate the passing to eternal life of our Father, the Servant of God Fr. George J. Willmann.

Through the initiative of the Knights of Columbus Fr. George J. Willmann Charities, Inc. (KCFGJWCI) led by its Chairman, Hilario G. Davide, Jr.; President, Alonso L. Tan and Executive Vice President, Ma. Theresa G. Curia, the Annual TV Mass was celebrated at San Agustin Church, Intramuros, Manila.

The bishop of the Diocese of Kalookan, Most. Rev. Pablo Virgilio S. David, DD, presided the Holy Mass with Rev. Msgr. Pedro C. Quitorio III, Rev. Fr. Jeronimo Ma. J. Cruz, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Deogracias M. Fajota, Rev. Fr. Jose William D. Araña, OSA, Rev. Fr. Arnold C. Sta. Maria, OSA, Rev. Fr. Robert T. Young, Rev. Fr. Janrey J. Zabala, Rev. Fr. Carlo Magno Marcelo, Rev. Fr. Francis Anthony A. Cedo, Rev. Fr. Jaime S. Ucab, Rev. Fr. Isabelo D. San Luis, Rev. Fr. Asis R. Bajao, OSA, Rev. Fr. Roy Gallano, OSA, Rev. Fr. James Uy, OSA and Rev. Fr. Randolf Dayan-dayan, OSA as concelebrants.

Lectors during the Mass were Luzon South Deputy Ramoncito A. Ocampo, Visayas State Secretary Noeni S. Nepomuceno, Mindanao Deputy Gerry Eutemio T. Mission and VP for FBG Gari M. San Sebastian. KCFGJWCI President Alonso L. Tan read the Prayer for the Cause of Fr. George J. Willmann. On the other hand, Supreme Director, Luzon North Deputy and KCFAPI Chairman Jose C. Reyes, Jr. with his family led the Prayer for the Unity of Families.

Also present during the Mass were the brother knights around the country, Sis. Rosalinda Pimentel, the International Regent of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate International and its members and other respective guests.

During the homily, Bishop David stated, “This day is made even more significant by the fact that it is the feast day of the Exaltation of the Cross. Our gentle warrior died on this special feast day, perhaps to highlight the fact that, if we are to win the spiritual battle which we all have to learn to fight well, we must discover, first and foremost, that we must be armed with no other weapon except the cross of Christ.”
“But finally, I must remind you also that FAITH IN ACTION is possible only by learning two important disciplines in the spiritual warfare, which the Jesuits are good at: PRAYER AND DISCERNMENT.

Fr. Willmann was a man of faith in action and man of prayer and discernment. That is why what he has left with KCFAPI, DMI and CYO remains as an enduring legacy. It is founded on a solid spiritual rock. He was a man who lived out his founder’s spirituality of generosity, best encapsulated in that prayer which we know better as a liturgical song: “Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve you as I should. To give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds. To toil and not to seek for rest. To labor and ask not for reward, save that of knowing that I do your most holy will.” Dear brothers and sisters in the KCFAPI, I invite you to reflect together on this prayer. I also unite myself with you in praying for progress in the cause of the beatification of the Servant of God, Fr. George Willmann SJ.”. he furthered. (JSServiento)
